There’s a heartwarming story behind our eye patches. Let’s hear it from Lyse-Anne Roy, the president of DrPatch Inc., as she tells how it all started with that first colorful eye covering she created for her own son Zacharie.

When Zacharie was first diagnosed with strabismus, I was devastated. Then I went into “solutions” mode. After living this so personally, something touched me deep inside.

I decided to help other families going through the same thing. So I founded DrPatch Inc. whose mission is to improve the quality of life of children with certain medical conditions of the eye.

How It All Began

Everything began one day in July 2006, when my son needed an eye patch. Though I searched, I couldn’t find anything on the market meeting my “mother-hen illustrator and graphic designer” criteria.

I started by making a patch for him myself, for his glasses. It had to be both efficient and aesthetic. Not only did I eventually succeed, but I was pleasantly surprised to see my child getting involved!

On December 23, 2006, a mother and her five-year-old daughter came to see me asking me if I could give her a nice eye patch like the one I had made for my son Zacharie.

Then, unfortunately, my step-brother suffered cranial trauma following a serious accident. He also needed a patch for his glasses. After this incident, a light flashed on for me. This is my calling, my mission in life.

“I Had To Help Others”

I thought to myself, “How ironic that several setbacks that closely affected my family should suddenly begin to give me pleasure.” With tears in my eyes, I poured my heart and soul into this.

I brought together a design team of the best illustrators to create eye patches for all ages to complement and help in their treatment and recovery process.

After much research on this type of fun and amusing eye patch, I realized that I could improve the lives of many children who suffer from eye disorders that can be treated with a patch.

The initial groundwork put in was very hard and even frustrating at times. But I knew in my heart that I had the strength to carry on and succeed.

I met with many optometrists and ophthalmologists who confirmed the usefulness and efficiency of these patches, and I was thrilled that ideas to improve and to help people kept pouring in.

Seeing Into The Future

It looks good – for everyone! It’s now become my passion to bring some happiness to people’s lives by beautiful illustrations and even works of art made especially for them.

Our patch business is flourishing with new orders arriving like clockwork, along with endless new ideas for new products! At first, this idea seemed too simple to be seen as an invention brought to market.

But it’s already a patent pending! And just look at us now!
