Eye patching and the power of words

There is no question about it, eye patching is a difficult process for everyone. As we all know, it is our job as parents to motivate our kids and encourage them to look at eye patching in a positive way. Our words, it appears, can have an extraordinary impact on our little loved ones – I would suggest they can even make the difference between failure and a successful treatment!

Eye opening isn’t it?

Here are a few ideas of encouraging phrases I liked from this blog filled with parenting solutions and resources:

“You should be proud of yourself!”

“Look at your improvement!”

“Your hard work is paying off!”

“Look how far you’ve come!”

“Thank you for your cooperation.”

“You make it look easy!”

“You’ve really got the hang of it!”

Can you imagine the smile on your little patcher’s face when he hears these encouraging words? I’m convinced they’ll pay off tenfolds– just like in the video!

Please leave your own ideas in the comments with other persevering parents just like you…

  • I made a comment on this precise video that was sent to me 7 month ago.I was so touched & when I saw it again I was really delighted once again.Words & images, different colors, everything from the smallest to the biggest are well admitted &much more appreciated when we valorise them with a touch of sensitivity wich could touch anyone of us.It’s true for things&that’s explain all the meticulous decorations in chops to attract people. But what seems to me much more important than fetching about how to make more money would be how to make more people happy & how to touch the heart of those we meet, those we treat,&those who need a smile, help or affection. If we keep those tresors in our minds&surely in our hearts we’ll certainly find all the beautiful, touching&attractive words to say in every situation to deal with.Every person has heared about blindness but marking the difference with some words about feelings every person would realise like a flash in their monotonuous lives has moved them because they realised something so obvious but so forgotten by so many of them & us.Life without feelings is so boring&to make it a joy we should appreciate all the gifts we have in every field of our life.In this valourous perspective comes in fact the way to attract children & find the wright word toencourage them.Every child has his own personality & caracter & dealing with a girl would sometimes be different than dealing with a boy.I noticed in my practice that the parents are sometimes a big burden to the treatement&all what you could do would be ruined effectively by ignorant parents who haven’t the same approach or even the wright one with their child. For that explaining to the parents the real challenge of their child’s case is essential.I must thank you so much for everything you said & all what you’ve proposed in your kind & exelent report.

  • Thank you so much Amédée for sharing your thoughts with us!

Every child is indeed different… however I think we can agree that all children – and all adults for that matter – are alike when it comes to recieving appreciation and kindness 🙂

I’m glad you liked the article and will make sure we post more of those in the future!

  • I arrange to see and examine all the children who need eye patching in a group of 10 on the same day so that the parents meet and discuss their situations with each other and I make a competition between the children to encourage the reluctant one to do more patching. The results are fruitful…..I guess
